Arch Hellen Med, 43(2), March-April 2026, 249-257 ORIGINAL PAPER Investigation of job satisfaction and quality of life of employees in mental health rehabilitation units D. Krikki,1 M. Hatzikou,2 P. Theodorou2 |
OBJECTIVE To determine the level of job satisfaction and quality of life of workers in mental health rehabilitation units and their degree of correlation between these two variables.
METHOD A synchronic survey was conducted using an anonymous questionnaire which was divided into three parts. The first part was related to the collection of demographic data, while the second and third part included the Job Satisfaction Survey (JSS) scale and the Quality of Life (EQ-5D-5L) scale, respectively. The research sample consisted of 147/179 (response rate: 82%) employees and was held from December 2023 to January 2024. Data analysis was performed through Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), version 26.0.
RESULTS The majority of participants reported a very good quality of life and expressed increased job satisfaction regarding supervision, the nature of the work, colleagues, communication and potential rewards. At the same time, a significant and positive relationship emerged between quality of life and dimensions related to salary, supervision, working conditions, colleagues, nature of work, communication, as well as the overall job satisfaction scale. In addition, women were more satisfied with supervision and nature of work than men, while those who had a monthly income >1,200 € were less satisfied with working conditions, compared to those with an income of € 600–1,000. At the same time, people aged >46 years were more satisfied with working conditions compared to those aged 18–35 years, while those working in sheltered housing or administration were more satisfied with privileges-benefits compared to those working in a boarding house/hostel.
CONCLUSIONS Employees in mental health rehabilitation units have a good quality of life and increased job satisfaction with margins for further improvement, aiming for better outcomes for mental health service recipients, promoting the quality of health care provided and ensuring patient safety.
Key words: Job satisfaction, Mental health rehabilitation units, Quality of life.
