The complex environment of health care makes necessary the application of quality control and quality assurance through collection of scientifically based evidence. Measurement of quality in the field of health care includes the comprehensive assessment of the expectations and the experience of patients regarding the care provided. The application of tools to measure key indicators concerning the structure of the services and processes and the outcome of the services provided, helps to improve the care of patients, especially oncological patients whose needs are increased. Flowcharts, Cause-Effect Chart, Pareto Principle, Histogram, Data Sheet, Deming Cycle, and Brainstorming are some of the most common tools used to identify the weak points in care and to indicate their possible solutions. The choice of the most suitable quality tool depends on the methodological approach and the dimensions to be determined. A crucial component of the effective use of quality tools is the updating of the knowledge of health professionals in their use and their benefits. Their use facilitates recognition, recording and evaluation of the problems. Systematic data collection and comparison of the results provide valuable information in areas of care of oncological patients, which, when used appropriately, will enable corrective actions that increase patient satisfaction and promote a positive response to treatment. The achievement of specific goals constitutes an indicator that evaluates the efficacy of interventions, thus directing the implementation of strategies to upgrade care for oncology patients.
