Telephysiotherapy for children with disabilities:
Proposal for a modern physiotherapeutic approach to pediatric neurological conditions

Telephysiotherapy is a promising method of rehabilitation for patients who are unable to receive face-to-face intervention. The low cost of access to the internet and other technological communication devices has greatly enhanced the possibilities for direct implemention of telephysiotherapy. Research on telephysiotherapy has shown positive results for its application with children who have neurological disabilities. Further study is needed, however, by physiotherapists in the management of the technology and support of the family, in order to achieve better results in the motor function of children. In 2020, the use of telephysiotherapy for children with disabilities does not appear to be very advanced, but remains for a number of reasons, at a fairly early stage. Immediate focus on this method is required by the Greek scientific community and especially by pediatric physiotherapists. Research, testing, evaluation, creation of customized programs, implementation and reassessment are considered necessary steps in the effective application of the method. Telephysiotherapy is a promising approach, introducing the principles of a modern physiotherapy model of management of the neurological problems of children in practice. Combined features and shared responsibilities that should govern the child-parent-physiotherapist relationship are suggested. In the application of telephysiotherapy, the physiotherapist becomes the "trainer" of the parents and the "coach" of the child. The ultimate goal is the correct and effective interaction of the child-parent-physiotherapist team that will capture the effectiveness of physiotherapy, resulting in the development of well-established pediatric telephysiotherapy with the best possible application, satisfaction and therapeutic results.
