Etymology of the medical term "cholera"

The medical term "cholera" appeared for the first time in the Corpus Hippocraticum to describe a sporadic acute disease of the digestive system due to dietary aberrations (e.g., polyphagia, excessive wine drinking, etc.). The present paper analyzes the etymology of the term "cholera".
